Groups select one project below to complete.

1. Use the Story Craft  guide to help you create your own science-fiction adventure story including what you learned about:

  • elements of a story
  • the galaxy
  • mitochondria
  • new vocabulary

2.  Create a board game that sequences the entire story. Include the following elements:

  • images depicting the main events of each chapter
  • questions about characters, setting and plot of the story
  • questions about scientific concepts
  • questions about the author
  • vocabulary words
  • rules of the game

3. Create a model replica of the mitochondria showing both inner and outer membranes, and describe their function. Compare/contrast this to how the mitochondria is described in the story.  Does the novel accurately depict the functions of the mitochondria?  Why is it so important to us?

4. Use PowerPoint or HyperStudio to create a virtual museum with rooms to display artifacts collected in this adventure.

  • You create the artifacts
  • Write a paragraph explaining each artifact and its use or value.

5. Create a comic book that illustrates the story. Show the main events that occur at each setting. Use a draw program to create your own images, or draw them by hand and scan them into your document.

6. Make character puppets and perform a puppet show of the story. You must write the script in a word processor.

7. Use Puzzlemaker to create a giant crossword puzzle making use of the vocabulary, literary and scientific concepts you learned from reading this book.
