First, take a few minutes to view the resources and explore life under the sea. They contain interesting facts and great images that may spark your imagination.

Phase One: Pre-writing

You are going on a journey into the realm of your imagination.  As you go you will answer questions and use the text boxes below to record what you see, hear, feel  and experience.  By the end you will have generated material for a fantastic story. So, let's get started.

1- Take a walk along the ocean shore and describe the scene.

  • How did you get there?

  • What time of day is it?

  • What color is the sky?

  • What sounds do you hear?

  • What do you see?

2- As you are walking, you come across a rare gem and attach it to yourself in some way.

  • Describe how and where do you find the gem?

  • What kind of gem is it?

  • Where do you place it on yourself?

  • What happens when you attach the gem to yourself?

3- Go far out into the ocean and deep beneath the sea.

  • How do you get there?

  • What do you see? hear? smell?

  • What do you experience?

  • What problems do you encounter, and how do you handle them? (Describe your under see adventure.)

  • How does it make you feel?

4- You come across a chest and bring it back to shore.

  • Describe where and how do you discover the chest?

  • How do you get possession of it?

  • How do you get it back to shore?

5- Once you are back up on the shore, you open the chest.

  • How do you get the chest open?

  • Describe in detail what you discover inside of the chest.

6- Ask three questions of the contents of the chest and record the answers. (Remember, this is a fantasy.  So it is ok if an object can speak.)

  • Who or what are you?

  • What do you want?

  • How can I help you?

Record the answers you receive from whom/whatever you find inside the chest.
Then take it from here to complete your story.

You now have enough information, drawn from your own imagination, for creating your story.  Copy and paste this entire section (from 'Phase One' on down) into a word document to save it with all of the text boxes filled in.  You will use it later.

Your next step is to locate several images to illustrate your story. Use the resources to help find images for your story.
