How much do you really understand about this conflict that effects the whole world in some way or another? |
Assume your roles and begin your research. Try Problem Solving to guide you in finding a solution.
Roles:
- Israeli Leader - researches and argues on behalf of the Israelis.
- Palestinian Leader - researches and argues on behalf of the Palestinians.
- Impartial Fact Finder - researches the history of peace efforts in the region and creates and/or collects statistics, graphs, charts, maps to substantiate facts on both sides.
- Chief Mediator - Analyzes both sides of the issues, negotiates a compromise and prepares the final presentation.
First
Research the background to discover how the conflict between Israel and Palestine began. How can it possibly end? Use the resources to find the answers to these key questions. Then use your own or your teacher's BLOG (if permitted) to discuss the issues with your team
- Why is this region so important?
- What are the major issues?
- Who are the key players?
- Where does each side stand on each issue? Make a chart to show both sides of the issue.
- What does each side want? Middle East Conflict - Why?
- What needs to change in order for each side to be satisfied?
Check Middle East Headlines for most current events in the region. - Look at where they are completely opposed and where there may be room for agreement. Look for common ground.

- Use Thesis Builder to help you create a thesis statement around which you will build your speech on "Permanent Peace in the Middle-East."
- Copy and paste your thesis statement into the first section of the Essay Organizer.
- Save this document on your computer.
- Fill in the topic sentences and supporting details to back up your thesis statement.
- Write your first draft. This will form the basis of your speech. You will need to add more paragraphs and supporting details.
Then
- Chief Mediator will download the PowerPoint Template and save it in your folder. Open the template and customize it with your own team's information from both sides.. Include your charts, maps and other pertinent statistics and graphics to make it convincing. You will use this as a visual aid when you present your speech.
