Encourage your students to express their feelings and fears, but most of all, encourage them to come up with things that THEY can do to make this world a better place to live.  Doing something positive helps to overcome the feeling of helplessness.

Why do they hate USA so much? How could this have been prevented? What can we do to help now? What about Arab Americans? What should be done about the terrorists?

How is the world responding? Is war the only solution? What other possible answers are there? What is the American Spirit? Where do we go from here? .
