Basic Research Question

Atlantis, Reality or Myth?

The basic research question will be answered at the conclusion of your expedition.  However, there are many questions that you will need to answer before coming to that conclusion. For this you will generate your own questions to drive your research.

As you proceed through the following phases, you will gain more and more useful knowledge about Atlantis to help you reach a conclusion.

There are four members of your expedition team:

Archeologist As a scientist, you have been researching for several years. A firm believer in the existence of Atlantis, you are faced with the daunting task of locating the lost continent and digging up artifacts to prove its existence. Will you find what you are looking for, or is it all just a myth?
Skeptic You don't believe any of this stuff about a lost continent, and you are setting out to disprove the whole theory.  Will you be able to do so, or will your viewpoint change as you conduct your research?
Historian You are on a fact-finding mission to discover IF such a place actually existed.  If so, how did the lost continent of Atlantis influence the course of history? If not, why have these tales of a lost continent persisted for centuries?  Look for other legends and historical events possibly linked to Atlantis. These may include the pyramids, Rosetta Stone, Alexandria Lighthouse, and England's ancient Stonehenge
Curator You come along hoping to bring back some rare artifacts to add to your museum collection.  You must keep a record of each and every item found on this expedition.  Explain each artifact telling what it is and what purpose it served.  These are the things that give us real clues as the existence and culture of a civilization.  Are there any real discoveries that lead to a definitive conclusion?
